Top 5 Most Anticipated Games of 2019

2018 was one of the best years in this decade for gamers we witnessed the release of stupendous and mindblowing titles such as God of War, Spider-Man, Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Red Dead Redemption among countless others. Along with such amazing titles, we also happened to see a few glimpses and sneak-peeks into what’s coming next year. While 2018 seemed to be like an unforgettable and enthralling year for games and gamers, I suspect that 2019 will be even greater. Here is our list of the top 5 most anitacpted games of 2019.

Anthem

Anthem Suite Up

Release Date: 22 February 2019
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows
Genre: Action role-playing game
Developer: Bioware
Publisher: EA

Anthem was a game that blew everyone’s minds when it was announced at E3 2017. The idea of being a freelancer mercenary in a shared world is something never seen before. The world of Anthem is an enormous and beautiful one in which you co-exist with your fellow freelance mercenaries. The focus of the game is Javlin suits, a type of exoskeleton that defines the player and his playstyle. You collect and customize Javlin suits. Based on the Javlin suit, there are 4 main characters classes; Ranger (Default), Colossus(Tank), Storm(Mage) and Interceptor(Speed and lightness). You can freely shift between any of them at any point based on the mission requirements.

Coming from Bioware, the studios behind games such as the Mass Effect and Dragon Age, Anthem has generated much hype among the gamers. The game will be published by EA, a studio which has earned a bad reputation among gamers and gaming community for the inclusion of microtransactions and unsatisfactory delivery of games. EA’s reputation will definitely have a bad effect on the initial sales of the game. However, if they decide to change their ways and actually listen to the fanbase for once, Anthem could be the game that restores the publisher’s old prestige.

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2

The Division 2

Release Date: 15 March 2019
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows
Genre: Action role-playing game, Survival game
Developers: Massive Entertainment, Ubisoft Reflections

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 has got a lot of hype to live up to, considering the wild success of its predecessor, Tom Clancy’s The Division. The game is set in an alternate version of Washington, DC which is contaminated by a civil war. Ubisoft, the developers and the publisher of the game, revealed that the new game will have massive 8 player raids, as compared to the 4 player raids in the previous game. You can play the raids with either your friends or other players online. Ubisoft also confirmed that there will be a year’s worth of free DLC, adding new quests, locations and items.

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 also features a small campaign, at the end of which the players are supposed to pick a class which they will use for their online avatars. The classes are ‘The Sharp Shooter’, ‘The Demolitionist’ and ‘The Survivalist’. These classes aren’t permanent and the players can switch between them whenever they want.

Halo Infinite

Halo Infinite

Release Date: TBA
Platforms: Xbox One, Microsoft Windows
Genre: Shooter
Developers: 343 Industries
Publisher: Microsoft

Halo Infinite marks the return of the legendary Master Chief and is perhaps one of the most anticipated games that were showcased at E3 2018 earlier this year. The fact that it doesn’t yet have a release date or that we were not shown much of it at the E3 does not affect its hype which is growing day by day. The sad part is that there are no further details on the game yet. Nothing much can be made out of the vague trailer that we saw at E3 2018.

The Last of US Part 2

The Last of US Part 2

Release Date: TBA, 2019
Platforms: Playstation 4
Genre: Action-adventure game, Survival horror
Developers: Naughty Dog
Publisher: Sony

The Last of US Part 2 continues the adventure of Joel and Ellie from the critically acclaimed Last of US from Naughty Dog studios. This time around, the players will take control of Ellie as the main protagonist instead of Joel. Although Joel does not appear much in the footage yet revealed, it is certain that he will be a part of the game since he made an appearance in the initial reveal trailer.

The fans were gifted a crisp gameplay trailer during E3 2018 but there haven’t been any major announcements since then.  A few things that can be said for sure are that the combat is similar to the last game with the addition of a few improvements, the story will be great and there will be a multiplayer mode. No release date has been announced as of yet by the publisher or developer. However, rumours point out a 2019 release.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpink 2077

Release Date: TBA
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows
Genre: Role-playing video game
Developers: CD Projekt Red
Publisher: CD Projekt

The wildly successful Witcher 3 earned CD Projekt a reputation for delivering top-notch RPG games and Cyberpunk 2077 is expected to be no different. Cyberpunk 2077 has been on the top of the list of most anticipated games since a gist of it was shown 5 years ago in 2013. However, when this E3 a cinematic trailer and almost an hour long gameplay footage was showcased, fan’s hype has been off the charts.

From the details that we have now, a little of the massive the Cyberpunk 2077 universe could be said, but that a lot in itself. It is set in a distant future city called Night City. You can play as a male or a female character which you customize yourself in the beginning. There are hundreds of upgrades to be acquired, both cosmetic as well as critical once you jump into the game. Moreover, there are various ways to complete a mission and the way you complete a certain mission alters the story and the world around you.
